Challenge 4 was a work together challenge where we had to make ATC cards... I didn't like it very much, I don't think that will become my "thing", lol...

Anyhow, here's our 4 cards all on one layout:

For challenge 5, we had to have chocolate and 6 things off the recipe list as a minimum, and then we could add whatever else we wanted... SO, my 6 things were: tree, 2 papers, flower, alpha, stitches, and staple.

Challenge 3!! :D

This challenge required us to selectively recolor a photo, use a date element, and have at least 20 words of journaling!!

I made this page for my friend Edith, who came all the way from Montana to be my Maid of Honor for my wedding!!

I used "Date Stamped" by Britt-ish Designs.

It Starts!! :D

Well, we have a week under our belts in this year's race!!

Challenge 1 was to do a layout that teaches us something about your partner! So, I decided to teach you this about Linda:

It also had to be a scraplift of either a layout of Linda's or of Linda's Choice, this one is a scraplift of a layout she chose!! :D

I used a lovely kit called Waiting by Designs by Tina! You can get it at Enchanted Studio Scraps!! :D

Challenge 2 was 5 things I love about... whatever! We had to have 5 pictures, and one of the pictures had to have a #5 in it! Also, we had to use 5 of a certain element! I chose frames! :D

For this one, I used my new kit, Sweet Love!! You can also get it at Enchanted Studio Scraps!! :D

So, it looks like last year, I never posted up all the different layouts from the last few challenges for the race... I decided to really be ready for this year by posting the last of the layouts from last year!!

Challenge 10 was for one partner only, I think... The partner who was doing the layout had to scrap the photos that were provided by the other partner... Well it was something like that, lol... So, here's the page I made for Linda with all her amazing daughters!! :D

Challenge 11 was about simplicity. We were supposed to use just one photo and ask someone a question. Elements were allowed, but I cracked myself up by simply making this:

Challenge 12 was from We are StoryTellers and we were supposed to use both of our pictures on the layout and write about why we digital scrapbook... Also, this was a layout we worked on together, by passing it back and forth digitally over email!!

There was a bonus challenge where we were supposed to make layouts that fit together and we were given very specific things to put on both sides of the page... So, I made us a template to use which would allow Linda to do the left page and myself to do the right...

Challenge 9!! :D

Here's my layout for Challenge 9:

Wow!! This was a fun page to do, hard but fun!!

The bottom right hand side is the first of 4 generations on this page. These are my grandparents who split up many years ago, before I could even remember. So, it's almost odd to me to see their young faces so close together. Above them, and the top photo on the right are their 3 children. The black and white photo is them as children and the color photo is the last picture (that I know about) of the three of them together before my mom (the one on the left in both photos) passed away. Below them is a photo of the third and fourth generations at the time of this photo. There are 5 grand children and 1 great grandchild so far!

My metal piece is the frame my grandmother is in. I think the flowers are pretty visible. I'm counting the sheet music and instruments as my retro items if the metal piece can't count as both. The lace is the purple that is poking out above and below the photo mattes.

To create this layout I used the following items:

Challenge 7 & 8!! :D

I'm having so much fun with the ADSR!! :D Challenge 8 was to do a Scraplift of one of our Scrapbooking Idol's layouts!! :D I had to go searching for an idol, but I found one, and a great one!! :D

I ended up making two layouts, because the first one went in it's own direction in a major way and couldn't get the word dream to match the theme... Here they are! :D

for the background, overlays by Amanda Rockwell and Atomic Cupcake. the felt stars are CU by Miss Tiina, the lined paper matte is by Cindy Doerksen, the lined paper, heart ribbon, wire frame, pink frame (I colored it), and wire alpha are from Pure Love by Luiza Garay, glitter plastic frame by Cathy Ann Designs, dreams alpha, and glitter spots (I desaturated them) from Tween by Libby Weifenbach, and stitched circle by Kari Henzelt.

Oh, and my challenge 7 layout, I don't think I posted that either!! (I was waiting for Linda to catch up!!) ;)

I made the other pieces you see: the ric racs, the tag, and the blue paper on the strips...

It is so kewl to look at all of these in the gallery and see what all the different people have made just using this one kit!! REALLY KEWL!! :D

LOL, that's what I get for slacking off on my posting. Heres my page for challenge 7.

We had to use all elements in a kit provided by Sunshine Studios. I recolored (or actually removed the color) from some of the elements and used a pic of my youngest daughter Stephanie in her new glasses. I had just played with this picture the night before and planned on making a page of her "rose colored glasses" over the weekend. How's that for perfect timing? I guess some times it pays to slack off. :)

I'll quit hogging the blog now, time to relax and slack off a little more.

Here's my "first" layout for challenge 6. To scraplift a page of Sarahs and flip vertically or horizontally and then tilt 45 degrees. Well I picked a page from Sarah's gallery at Polka Dot Potato and then went to shower before starting my page. In the time I was gone from the computer my daughter jumped on and when I came back I saw a different layout than the one I had picked and decided to to use that one instead. I then sat down and scrapped my little heart out so I could get it posted early just in case I needed to make any changes before the deadline.

After I posted my page, I got an email from Sarah saying that the link I posted didn't go to a page of hers. I went back and checked and the link worked for me and then I noticed the name on the page! It wasn't Sarah's layout. Apparently, my daughter had looked around while I was in the shower and the page I lifted was someone elses!!! LOL, I had to remove the page and then went back to my original choice, which I was positive was hers, it had a pic of Rachel in it.

So here is the page I made of my granddaughter Delayne in her baptism gown, which was made from my daughters and my wedding dresses.

LOL, I'm still laughing at this.

This was a first for me. Making a page using no pictures. I used a favorite quote and scrapped around that. I love this quote because it reminds me of my dad. I was given the nickname "Bird" when I was very young and all my life that is what my dad called me. (Thus my screen name, ls-my first and middle initials, and bird my nickname) and I "hope" he knows how much I loved him amd miss him. I printed this one out and framed it also.

And before I start crying again, on to challenge 6...

The cuties in the pic are my 5 grandchildren, Hayden, Halle, Eli, Owen and Delayne. I printed this one out (minus the journaling) and hung it in my computer room. I have pic's of them all over my house!

Challenge 5 for the ADSR was to create a page with no photos but 3 empty frames! I made this:

with a kit I designed called I So Totally Love You, which will be in a grab bag released Feb. 1 at Designs In Digital :D This alpha is by Tara Dunstan, and is the only thing here that isn't in the kit!

Linda, your challenge 6 layout is AWESOME!! I'm so glad you did it!! I was super sick last week and it would have been really hard for me, so the road block fell at the perfect time!! :D

Challenge 4, whew!

So, Challenge 4 is the altered art challenge this year! I was so super nervous, I actually posted in our thread that this was my first attempt, lol...

Journaling Reads:

This is the most amazing quote! I try to remember it every day! I have to remind myself over and over that not only is this quote for my children, who I try to teach to live this way, but it is true for ME- the mom, the wife, the woman. I find it so easy to forget that we all have a responsibility to be as amazing as possible! This quote helps me remember so I can dust myself off and keep going!

**These are pictures of my daughter Rachel, who was 7 at the time, performing with the Fern Street Junior Circus in San Diego. Also, I really believe in this quote!! I thought it was part of the challenge to INSPIRE so I wanted to really say something positive with my page!

I made one of these for my daughter that says, "Never forget how it feels to fly," I think I'm going to get it printed and framed for her room!! :D

This is my first real attempt at a layout of this style. I feel like it really came together, lol... I really love how this turned out but I'm not sure if it is really my style. I don't think this is the kind of scrapper I am. But, it's nice to know that I can do it if I want to!! :D

It's funny because when I saw this layout in the gallery, I didn't think I wanted to redo it, and I had no clue how I was going to make it any better, because I always loved this Hammy layout. But, once I started playing with the pictures, I did find that there is a lot of new information I am able to apply to photos!! :D SO, I thought I would take some time here to talk about the new tricks I've used on this page that I didn't use on the last one... First off, I vignetted the photos so that Rachel's face would stand out more. I also edited the photos by increasing the saturation. These are two things that would not have dawned on me way back in the day, lol...

I also added a trim area to this layout, which is great and a very important thing I've learned to do so that I don't lose any of the main stuff when I have the page printed. The last really big thing I've done here that I never used to do is modify this template like a mad woman. I used to use the templates how they were, and would even go so far as to add a duplicate of a picture rather than alter the template. In this case, I added an additional picture, resized pictures, added things, took things away, moved the whole thing down, and so on.

Also, these days, if I find myself needing something, like an alpha to pull the title together, I will make it myself. I never used to feel confident doing that. I would search and search for what I was needed, whereas nowadays, I just make what I want and use it, lol...

So, I hope you like the new version more than the old version, which I'm finding very busy in not a great way. My husband and daughter both like the new version much better, and I do as well. When I started making it, I thought I was just doing it different, not better... But, in the end, I see that I was making it better, and I'm super glad I did!! :D

Finally, a few minutes to get caught up up on all the projects I have sitting in limbo land. Here is my page for challenge one. The photo is my 3 daughters from New Years Eve 2007/2008. One of the rare occasions when all three of them spent an evening together without alot of drama. Any of you who have more than 2 daughters will understand. Two of them together and all is fine... but throw in that third one and eventually someone is going to lose it. Throw alcohol in the mix and the tears start flowing. LOL, I love them dearly and wouldn't trade being their mom for anything but some days...

Catching Up!

Wowee!! I've been a pretty neglectful blogger this past week or so, haven't I?

We have had two great challenges since the last time I logged in over here to show my stuff!! Challenge 11 was a "Wings" challenge! We were supposed to use wings to design our pages! It didn't matter how we used them, just that they were there!

SO, I scrapped about this pair of wings that has been in Rachel's closet for quite some time now!! She got them about 4 years ago from my mother, who has been gone for almost 3 years... Here's my page for Challenge 11:

Also, we had a 12th Challenge, which was that one of us was to supply the photos and the journaling, and the other was to supply the scrapbooking!! Linda sent me these two great photos and a lovely journal, and I scrapped them into this page:

This was one of the harder challenges for me so far... I didn't realize how much I would want the page to be perfect for my partner, lol...

There is really only one more challenge in this race that I need to complete and I have until 9pm my time tomorrow night to finish it- the Bonus challenge, a page based on something that is part of your daily routine... I think I'm going to do mine about driving Rachel around, lol...

Challenge #11...

Here's my Lo for challenge 11. It's a pic of the garden I planted the day of my dad's funeral. It wasn't complete yet when I took the picture, by this is as far as I got that day.

I can't wait for the snow to melt and the flowers to bloom. I love being out in my garden, just me and my thoughts digging in the dirt, tunes cranked WAY UP and forgeting about the rest of the world for a few hours a week.

I can't believe we are down to the past challenge already! What am I going to do with my free time now? LOL, good thing it's wedding season and I have orders to work on.

Well, only one of us had to do this challenge and it was the one who hadn't done the other challenge that only one of us had to do... SO, it was my turn!! The challenge was to use 50 different elements from at least 10 different designers!! It wasn't easy, let me tell you!! But, in the end, I love how my page turned out, it is really kewl, I think...

Here's my page for challenge 9 (Altered Art). I love the altered art style. It kind of fits my decorating style, although my family will tell you I don't have really have just one. I have every room in my house decorated in a different style because I like too many to pick just one! I have rooms decorated in retro, vintage, primative, Americana, modern contemporary, country, outdoorsy lodge and I'm about to redo the main bathroom in shabby chic. LOL, it's way cheaper to scrapbook my styles than decorate with them.

Well, I don't know anything about Altered Art so I have no clue if I did what they asked me to do... Don't be surprised if you see me show up with another layout in a couple days that is more "altered", lol... But, I sure like how this one turned out!!

Linda, I have to tell ya, I went to Alaska in the summer time, which is really the only time you can actually go and visit. They sort of batten down the hatches for winter up there, lol... BUT, in the summer, the weather is crisp but not freezing. We wore our jackets but we didn't have any snow fall on us. The glaciers didn't melt but it wasn't very cold. It was really awesome to leave Southern California in the middle of a nice hot summer, and head north for cool temperatures if only for 10 days!! :D

Those pic's turned out big! I forgot to mention that those crazy bridesmaids are my daughter and her friends. There were 6 of them that got married in 2006 and they all stood up for each other, and got a little more crazy with each wedding. My daughter is the one with the cones, and one the two "hay wrestling" LOL, she's also in the pic on the water wheel. The two of them decided to crawl into this huge water wheel outside of the country club where the reception was being held and see if they could walk like hamsters on a wheel! LOL, they never did get the wheel to move, but my daughter had some nice bruises from where her foot went through the rotted wood on the bottom of it. Those girls are a crazy bunch. I have a ton of pic's from the various weddings and bridal parties, but some of them would probably get me banned. Let's just say that when a bus load of girls on their way home from a bachelorette party at 2:00am have to take a potty break and nothing is open... any field or convience store parking lot will do. I think I'll just keep those pic's for blackmail purposes.The picture on the bottom is all of them (including my other 2 daughters) at my daughters shower. I guess married life agrees with them, about half of them either have or going to pop out babies this year.

Sarah, your vacation to Alaska looks like it was a great time. I hear that it is beautiful there. But being from Wisconsin I have no desire right now to visit anywhere that it is colder than here. We got 3 more inches of the white stuff today, and they are predicting more next week! I can't wait for it all to melt and the sun to come out for more than one day at a time.

Challenge 8...

Yeah! I got to make a neat page. When I found out we had to scrap a page about our most memorable trip/vacation I knew right away what I would do. I did my page on a trip to the season 4 American Idol finales that my daughter and I won thru a local radio station. I hadn't looked at these pic's in a long time. Some of our pictures are still on my daughters cell phone as we haven't bought the cable to download them yet. :( But we did get some great shots out in the courtyard at Highland Center. It was the first time I had gone on a vacation alone with one of daughters. We had a great time. We got tickets to the last two tapings, and our air fare/hotel stay! Now we're saving up to go back and see all the fun things we missed while the show was taping...

This was a fun challenge, not too into the therapy, and not hard to do, just a little different... I'm not big on black and white photos usually, and I really had to punch it up with the wild colors in the papers to make up for the fact that I felt like the pictures were a little blah... Still, I think if you look closely at them and see what they are, you'll think they are pretty kewl!! :D

Thanks for stopping by!! Is anybody besides me or Linda even seeing this thing?? I have no clue on how I would find that out, since no one ever leaves us any comments, lol...

Challenge 7, Holy Canoli!!

WOW!! This was a SUPER hard challenge, with a different challenge for each one of us on the team... It was hard, but so worth it in the end! I love how it turned out!!

This is a letter to my 16 or 17 year old self, the journaling reads:
I'm trying so hard to write you this letter and tell you all the things I want you to do
differently to fix the mistakes I made when I was you. But, every consequence

Challenge 5, Revisited... Ugh!

Well, it turns out that my "implied" questions didn't go over big with the rules people at ADSR, but the good news is that they let me redo it so we wouldn't get disqualified, YAY!! :D So, here is my new and improved layout for challenge 5!!

Here's our layout for challenge 6 in the ADSR. It was a road block and only one of us could do it. Our challenge was for one of us to "lift" a page out of the other team member's gallery, spin it, and make a page with the opposite meaning. Whew! Since Sarah had more lay out's posted we decided I would lift one of her's.

Well, here's my layout for challenge 5, it wasn't doing for me like I wanted it to, I don't know why... I am making friends with my tablet though and used it to do the journaling in a very sloppy version of my own handwriting!

I think this will be one of those pages I come back and do again later so that I will be more happy with it!!

Bring on Challenge 6!! I can't wait to see what it will be!!

On a personal note, one of my feet is swelling unpredictably and seemingly without reason, it is upsetting me a bit, so I'm watching it right now... I hope I don't end up having to go to the dr... I hate going to the dr...

Challenge #5

I know I should really be in bed as I have to get up for work in 5 hours, but this time change is really messing with me. So here I sit playing on the computer at almost 1:00 in the morning, dreading the sound of my alarm clock going off and knowing I have to get up and face another 5 days of work. Uhhhhhhg

This is my page for the ADSR challenge 5. Our challenge was to do a 4 question interview any inanimate object. I interviewed my husbands pride and joy... his '55 chevy show car. I play with computers and he still plays with cars. At least he has a hobby that he can work on at home. We built a 3 car garage in the backyard to house his "toys" and thats were you'll find him 75% of the time. It's even heated so he can go there in the winter. So, I've named her her Lola, and I refer to her as his mistress because somedays she gets a lot more attention than I do. But, I don't complain , it's fun to take her out for a ride or spend a lazy day at a car show. And besides, if he's working in the garage, I have more time to play on the computer!

Counting down to Saturday...(no work=more computer play time)

Challenge 4, WOW

This was tough... When I opened the page showing the challenge and read the subject "spill it" I knew without reading any further what my subject would be. I've tried to make a page for my dad many times, but always quit when the tears started to flow. I had to edit my journaling to get it all to fit, but it pretty much sums up what I would consider the worst year of my life, with the exception of the birth of my grandson Owen. Good-bye 2007. I am looking forward to those new beginnings this year, starting with grandbaby number 5 who will be here in September. And even though he/she was a total surprise to my daughter and her husband (their youngest is only 10 months old) this grandma's ready for another little bundle of love.

It's crazy... How in a few short weeks, I've learned so much about Sarah whom I've never met, just by making and reading a few scrapbook pages. We both chose green as our favorite color, we are both proud mothers of daughters, we both love dogs, and each of us cried making that last page. I am really glad I did this race and had the chance to make a new friend. I'm excited to see what else we have in common in the next few weeks and I am praying the next challenge will be a lighter subject. LOL, I have a bunch of fun pictures just screaming to be made into a page.

ADSR Challenge 4

This was a super awesome challenge, I thought... I've been wanting to make this page for a long time, ever since I started DigiScrappin, I knew I wanted to make a page like this, so I am STOKED to be able to now...

When I was in college, and Rachel was 2 and a half, almost 3, one of my teachers had a Valentine's Day poetry reading. I told her I was going to find a great poem about a parent's love for their child and read that. She said I should start writing because I was never going to find one. I spent many hours in the library proving her to be right, there just wasn't one to be found.

So, about an hour before the reading was to start, I sat down and wrote this. It was an amazingly healing moment for me, it really helped me to let go of anger and move on to the love I have for my daughter. It changed who I was as a person and as a parent. I am so grateful for that, because I immediately became a better mother, and more free as a person.

Thanks So Much To You

There’s a fetus in my stomach
It’s something very new
It’s been there for three months now,
Thanks so much to you.

But, a fetus is a baby,
And a baby’s lots of work.
They take a lot of money
Because of their great worth.
But, a baby is a child
A person all their own,
For moms and dads to fuss over
And see how much they’ve grown.

Do you think you’ll do the fussing?
Do you think you’ll spend your time?
From somewhere deep inside of me,
I know that I’ll spend mine.
I’ll walk and talk and coo,
And I’ll be loving all the time.

But, I can’t help but wonder,
What will happen in your mind?
Will you see her first steps and smile,
Beaming and boasting all the while?
Will you sacrifice all your plans
Just to make them up anew?
Will you change everything about yourself?
Will you?

Well, it’s three years later,
And I have my answers.
Her daddy’s just a picture,
Because you didn’t change your life, sir.

I thought I would be mad.
I thought I might be sad.
I never thought for one moment
That I’d be so glad!

You see, a baby is the best thing
To have with you everyday,
And a baby is the best one
To share with all your pay,
Because babies can return your love
With just a simple look,
And that’s something that I never got
From any poetry book.

Oh, I love my baby!
I love her all day long!
I love to watch her play and grow
And get so very strong.
I love having a baby
And not sharing her at all.
I love to see her smile each day
And catch her if she falls.
I love that when she’s hurting,
It’s me she wants to see.
I’d love for her to stay this way
For all eternity.

I love to kiss it better
And hold her if she cries.
I know this is the kind of love
That truly never dies!
So, I wanted to take this moment
Just to look at you and say
That what you gave was a true gift,
Even if you didn’t stay,
And in my life, I’m never really blue,
Because I have my Rachel,

Challenge 3

This was really a hard challenge for me. I'm not one to take the spotlight or talk about myself. I usually leave that to my daughters or grandkids. But, I did finally manage to make a page and I did it without using a picture of myself! I hate the way I look in pictures and am pretty good at keeping out of most of them. There are very few pictures to be found with me in them and if I get ahold of them they are gone!LOL, maybe someday I'll be brave and actually try and find one I like enough to show.

Here's my entry for Challenge 3!! Wow, this one was super hard. It isn't easy to create a page about yourself and write all over it!! It was tough to stay on track and not talk about other people instead of myself... But, I had a super fun time with it! By Friday of last week, I was sad there wasn't a challenge to get started on, it's a little scary because when the race is over, I'll have to go searching around for challenges, lol...

Here's our entry for the second challenge!!

I think this was a super fun challenge! It was interesting to work together to create just one layout! Not only that, but I was actually surprised at how easy it was to just grab half the page already done, and add a complimentary opposite side!! It was truly an interesting experience!!

I have got to take some better pictures of these dogs, lol... I think they are super cute when they sleep and I can never get them to look adorable together when they are awake, lol...

Woo Hoo! We're off to the races...

Just finished my first challenge for the race. I'll post a pic but first I have to figure out how. LOL

OK, I got it. It's kinda small but you can still see her. This is my new puppy Dixie (I just couldn't chose one of my grandkids over the others, so the dog wins). She was born on my birthday last November and we brought her home in January. She is a mini dachshund, but don't tell her that... she thinks shes a doberman. LOL, just ask the poor cat.

My favorite color is also green, although I went with a teal on this one. And my favorite element of the moment is a flower. I guess its due to severe spring fever. If you live anywhere near WI. you know what I mean. And we are supposed to get more of the $#@* tomorrow! Sure could use some of that California sunshine about now.

Sarah, love your layout, and your daughter is beautiful!

Here is my first layout for the Amazing Digi Scrapping Race!! YAY!! :D

The challenge was to make a page about your favorite thing to scrap about. Make it at least half your favorite color, use the sketch provided, make it your own in some way, and use your favorite element 3 times over!!
My fave color is green, my fave scrap subject is Rachel, and my fave element is RIBBON!! :D
